Can new faces make the difference?

Not only did the Huskers clean house as far as the offensive coaching staff was concerned, Nebraska football was also really active in the transfer portal and with junior college transfers.

Nebraska added JUCO players, a guy from the FCS, and a number of other players from the portal. It’s a smart strategy after the Huskers have missed on some key recruits in recent years and Nebraska also has to hope its method works as well as Michigan State’s did last year.

If you think about it, Nebraska is following the playbook of two Big Ten rivals: Michigan and Michigan State.

The Wolverines decided to stick by Jim Harbaugh after the 2020 season and brought him back on a cheaper contract with a smaller buyout. The Huskers did the same with Frost. Frost then added numerous players in the transfer portal in an attempt to win next season.

The portal was a great tool for Mel Tucker as he quickly turned around Michigan State and the Huskers hit it really hard this offseason, ranking just outside the top 10 in transfer additions.

Those new players, along with the new coaches need to make the difference, otherwise, it’s hard to see Frost surviving another year.
