Miami football landed commitments from twin brothers Robby Washington and Bobby Washington, two players close to home starting off a big weekend in college football recruiting with a bang.

One of Mario Cristobal’s biggest strengths has always been recruiting and it’s one reason some people believe he’s got the ability to turn Miami football back into a powerhouse.

A key part of that strategy is keeping the best players from Miami and South Florida, in Miami and the Hurricanes accomplished that on Thursday with two Miami-area commitments — Robby Washington and Bobby Washington — twin brothers who both pledged to Miami football.

Robby Washington is a top-200 recruit in the 247 sports composite rankings (181) and is the No. 14 athlete as well as the No. 32 player in the state of Florida. 247 sports own rankings have him as the No. 8 athlete and ranked 16th in Florida.

So that’s a nice get for the Hurricanes and the addition of his brother, a three-star linebacker, makes it even better.

And, these commitments happened because of the relentless recruiting effort put forth by Miami football and its staff as the Washington brothers were supposed to decide in May according to 247 sports. They also chose Miami over Georgia, Alabama, and Florida State.

Miami has just four commitments in 2023 so there is work to do but Cristobal knows that. He also understands how to recruit for the Hurricanes.

More on college football recruiting starting with Arch Manning and Texas

While Miami football started the weekend off with a bang, it’s a huge college football recruiting weekend with important visits happening across the country according to this post from Steve Wiltfong of 247 sports.

The Texas football program is one that’s hosting a number of high-profile visitors. In fact, Texas probably has the most star-studded lineup this weekend such as Arch Manning, the No. 1 QB is going to be on campus along with Reuben Owens, the top-ranked running back and one of the top defensive players in the country in David Hicks, the top D-lineman in the lone-star state.

Having Arch Manning on campus is key for the Longhorns, however, it was announced on Thursday that David Cutcliffe is going to work for the SEC in an off-field role instead of joining the Texas program. Cutcliffe was Eli’s head coach at Ole Miss and Peyton’s OC at Tennessee so that would have been a huge hire. Instead, it’s another reason to lean towards Bama in this race.

5-stars from 2022 college football recruiting class taking visits

Josh Conerly Jr. is one of the top uncommitted recruits in the 2022 class and he’s taking a visit to USC football this weekend. The Trojans recently picked up a crystal ball projection for Conerly and many see them as the favorite.

Lebbeus Overton, another five-star in 2022, on the defensive line, is going to visit Texas A&M this weekend. His brother, a transfer from Liberty, Micaiah Overton, is also visiting according to Wiltfong and this could be an ideal chance for the Aggies to close and add another elite prospect to their incredible 2022 recruiting haul.

QB visits

Dante Moore will be at Notre Dame early this next week and that’s going to be a key visit for the Irish as they are trying to close the deal for Moore, with Michigan, LSU, Florida, and others giving chase for the five-star from Detroit.

Another quarterback from the state of Michigan visiting an out-of-state program this weekend is CJ Carr, the grandson of Michigan coach Lloyd Carr. The Wolverines have multiple crystal ball projections but Carr will be visiting Georgia football and that has to be worrisome for U-M.

Five-star quarterback Jadyn Davis, the top-ranked QB target in the 2024 college football recruiting class, will visit North Carolina.
