Texas A&M football already put together the best recruiting class in the history of the 247 sports composite rankings and it’s about to get even better.

It might seem a little late in the process but there are still two five-star recruits that remain unsigned in the 2022 recruiting class and one is strongly considering Texas A&M football.

That’s five-star defensive lineman Lebbeus Overton. The 6-foot-4, 265-pounder is ranked as the 18th-best player overall in the 2022 class according to the 247 sports composite rankings, as well as the No. 5 defensive lineman and third-best recruit in the state of Georgia.

The Bulldogs are one of the teams in the mix along with Oklahoma, Ohio State, Oregon, and of course, Texas A&M football.

Texas A&M football has emerged as the favorite for five-star Lebbeus Overton

There are a number of factors working in favor of the Aggies in this recruitment and one is the fact that Overton just took an official visit to College Station this weekend. He’s been on campus numerous times and his brother, a defender in the transfer portal, also visited Texas A&M football recently.

Lebbeus Overton wants to play with his brother if possible, according to Steve Wiltfong of 247 sports, and the fact that his visit was at the same time as his brother’s had to have an impact.

Georgia is another team in the race making a strong push and the Bulldogs would hate to losing one of the top players in their home state to a conference rival, but Texas A&M has simply done the best job of recruiting him.

Every timeline is different and Overton was viewed as an Oklahoma lean at one point but the Sooners have seen a number of things change, although Brent Venables still has the Sooners in the mix. Dan Lanning has also carried over his ties to Oregon and has the Ducks in the mix.

But Wiltfong dropped his crystal ball projection for the Aggies Tuesday and that carries a lot of weight. He also explained why he’s got them at the top of Overton’s list:

"“We currently see the Aggies as the team to beat. Overton made some rounds last summer, making stops at places like Alabama, Clemson, Georgia, Oklahoma, Ohio State and Texas A&M. Back then, he said at the time his trip to College Station was his best one yet. Overton was born there, and it was one of the programs he grew up rooting for. He had a great deal of intrigue in Texas A&M prior to his process even starting and Jimbo Fisher and his staff have done a terrific job from the moment they offered.”"

Wiltfong used a confidence level of six (1-10 scale) for his crystal ball. A Georgia insider also put in a crystal ball for the Aggies at the same confidence level last week.

A&M is trending in this recruitment and it shouldn’t surprise anyone. Fisher has won a lot of big-time recruiting battles in the past few years and Lebbeus Overton could be next.
