UCLA Football: 3 storylines to follow in spring 2022
1. Dorian Thompson-Robinson’s growth as a passer
Dorian Thompson-Robinson’s status for a potential fifth year was up in the air after the season and it looked like he was going to leave the program after Chip Kelly landed Dillon Gabriel in the transfer portal. Gabriel surely wouldn’t pick a school where he’s not fully guaranteed to start, right?
Well, DTR made the decision to come back and Gabriel eventually decommitted and chose Oklahoma as his next destination to play for Brent Venables.
Thompson-Robinson was coming off his best year as a passer for UCLA, throwing for 2,409 yards and 21 touchdowns with just six picks and a completion rate of 62 percent. He also averaged a career-best 8.5 yards per attempt which just went to show that he wasn’t throwing it to his check-downs every time.
The growth of Thompson-Robinson from his freshman to his senior year was impressive and now with a fifth year in front of him, will he be able to take that next step and continue to mold into an NFL prospect?
I’m interested to see just how much he’s improved as a passer this spring, even after a career year.
