Every year we see teams rise up and shock the country. These five college football teams will break out and shock the nation in 2022.

College football and unpredictability go hand-in-hand.

Every year, there are teams that virtually come out of nowhere to contend for titles and the 2021 season was actually a prime example of that.

You could look at each conference and point to a team — or teams — that shocked everyone and contended in a year that it wasn’t supposed to.

The ACC was expected to be Clemson’s conference but Pitt and Wake Forest carried the load and played in the title game. The Big Ten was presumed to be Ohio State’s but Michigan and Michigan State were right there in the mix, surprisingly, as well. The Pac-12 looked like Oregon’s to lose but Utah rose up and stole the title from the back-to-back champs. And the Big 12 saw Oklahoma State and Baylor overtake Oklahoma in the title game.

Unsurprisingly, however, the SEC stuck to the script as Georgia and Alabama played for the title and both made the playoff. Maybe we’ll see a different team finally rise up this season.

Let’s take a look at the next batch of teams that could rise up, contend in their respective conferences, and shockingly push for a playoff or New Year’s Six berth.
