4. Virginia

There’s not that much to say about the state of Virginia in regards to how 2022 will turn out for them, but what can be said is predominantly negative.

The Virginia Tech Hokies have donned losing records in three of their last four seasons and will be led into battle by an unproven head coach in Brent Pry. As for the Virginia Cavaliers, they recently lost outstanding head coach Bronco Mendenhall, and the last time that they had someone else was the last time that they were consistently terrible.

Looking beyond the Power Five, the Liberty Flames were good, and the Old Dominion Monarchs were not. There wasn’t much going on at the FCS level, either, as both Richmond and Norfolk State were rather mediocre.

Recruiting could be worse, as while Virginia dwells at 11th out of 14 teams, the Hokies are kicking it in fifth with multiple four-star commits. However, that won’t be enough to ascend beyond the state’s blatant struggles.
