I can already hear the groans of LSU fans after opening this page. Yes, I truly believe Brian Kelly is overrated because he’s being paid as a top-three coach in the country and I don’t think he’s that good.

Notre Dame fans had mixed feelings about Kelly over his time in South Bend. He made the College Football Playoff twice and the BCS National Championship Game once. He’s 0-3 in those games and none of them were particularly close. In fact, he lost 31-14 in the 2021 playoff, 30-3 in the 2018 playoff, and 42-14 in the 2012 BCS title game.

Losing by a combined 72 points in three huge games is not a good look and yet Kelly still gets a pass and LSU did everything it could to steal him away from Notre Dame.

Does LSU realize that it has national title aspirations and Kelly has never won a playoff game (or even come within 17 points in the playoff) and lost in his only championship appearance by 28 points? I think Kelly is a top 10-12 coach in college football, most likely, but some lists rate him as a top-five lock and I think that’s crazy.

Kelly could prove me wrong and win big in Baton Rouge, but from what I’ve seen from him in big games at Notre Dame, I don’t see that happening.
