Nebraska Football: 3 things to watch during Huskers’ spring game
Nebraska football is holding its spring game on Saturday and here are three things to watch heading into an important spring game for the Huskers.
It’s officially spring game season and after Michigan held its spring game last weekend, the glorified scrimmages are going to ramp up and Nebraska football will hold its game Saturday.
The Huskers and head coach Scott Frost will get things going on Saturday at 1 p.m. and it’s going to be one of the most interesting games to follow. Not only is Frost firmly on the hot seat heading into 2022, Nebraska also has a new quarterback and a new offensive coordinator.
Can Frost finally get things figured out? We’ll see but here are three things for Nebraska football fans to watch heading into the spring game on Saturday.
QB competition
Frost hasn’t said much about the quarterback competition but he hasn’t named a starter. He also hasn’t said when he plans to do that which isn’t a surprise.
When it comes to quarterback competitions, getting a head coach to name one is like pulling teeth. They are afraid saying the wrong thing will lead to a transfer, although Frost has had quarterbacks transfer right before the season too, so maybe honesty is the best policy.
At any rate, this will be the first extended view Nebraska football fans will get of Texas transfer Casey Thompson at quarterback. Is he as good as advertised? How is he gelling with new offensive coordinator Mark Whipple? Is he an ugprade?
These are all things Nebraska football fans want to know. Logan Smothers could also keep the competition interesting with a strong performance. But the key thing was to upgrade the position and cut down on turnovers and things like that and this will be the first small test.
