932. Pick Analysis. Oct. 28. 9. player. Scouting Report. Provo, Utah. East Carolina Pirates

Mike Houston’s East Carolina squad showed serious improvement in 2021. After only winning a third of their games in 2019 and 2020, the Pirates won seven games last season.

Holton Ahlers has been quarterbacking ECU since the Great Sphinx was built, and is always doing it well. Lining up beside him is Keaton Mitchell, who ran for over 1,100 yards in 2021.

The Pirates will miss cornerback Ja’Quan McMillian, though. McMillian was one of the best in college football at his position.

Even though ECU is a tad underrated, BYU gets a double-digit win.

Final Score: BYU 45, East Carolina 27 (BYU 8-1)

Boise State had an uncharacteristic 2021. A program that had been coated in glory for 20 years, could only manage seven wins in Andy Avalos’ first year as head coach.

In large part, the offense never worked. Quarterback Hank Bachmeier has always struggled with consistency and injuries. Even Khalil Shakir’s 1,100 yards of receiving couldn’t save them from themselves.

But, most of their big-time contributors are back, and Boise could be in for a big season. Yet, BYU’s talent should carry the day for them, and a Cougar win is in order.

Final Score: BYU 30, Boise State 17 (BYU 9-1)
