Ole Miss football has picked up a crystal ball projection for a 2023 quarterback recruit but not one that Rebel fans probably wanted.

Lane Kiffin and the Ole Miss football team have been involved with a number of top quarterback recruits in the 2023 class, but things have been trending in the wrong direction with some of the Rebels’ top targets.

Ole Miss was hoping it could land Arch Manning. After all, his grandfather played at Ole Miss and so did his uncle (Eli).

But the Rebels have fallen off in that recruitment. They also have made strong pushes for Jaden Rashada and Christopher Vizzina, two other highly-touted QBs in the 2023 recruiting class.

Unfortunately for Ole Miss football, Vizzina is now trending to Clemson and is set to make an announcement on Tuesday. The prospect from Alabama is ranked just outside the top 50. He was one of the top consolation prizes for Ole Miss outside of Arch and another is Rashada.

Yet, Rashada, the five-star quarterback from California, was once considered a possible Ole Miss football commitment before Oregon and Miami have gained ground lately.

The Rebels actually lead still according to the On3.com prediciton machine, but some recent news with quarterback recruit Marcel Reed should change that thinking.

Ole Miss football projected to land Marcel Reed

Marcel Reed isn’t a four or five-star quarterback, at least according to the 247 sports composite rankings, but he’s a top-400 prospect, and 247 ranks him as a four-star in its own rankings.

Reed is out of Nashville and is 6-foot-1, 175 pounds. He’s also a dual-threat option which is a good fit for Lane Kiffin and the offense he’s running. That’s why Rashada seemed like an ideal option too.

Reed is raw though. During the past three high school seasons, he’s got 23 touchdown runs. In terms of passing, he’s thrown 35 touchdowns compared to 18 interceptions — a high number for high school football, so he will need time to develop.

Still, Ole Miss football looks like it will beat out other SEC programs such as Arkansas and Vanderbilt for Reed and it’s better to land a talented QB with upside than none at all.

There is just one crystal ball projection for Reed to land with the Rebels but it was from Steve Wiltfong of 247 sports which usually means more are to follow so stay tuned.
