College Football: Top spring 2022 QB battles, Part 2

2. Cincinnati: Ben Bryant vs. Evan Prater
Can you go home again? That is the question Ben Bryant will attempt to answer as he returns to Cincinnati from Eastern Michigan. Desmond Ridder’s departure to the NFL has left an enormous hole in the quarterback room at Cincy. The staff loves Evan Prater, but Ben Bryant has the experience.
The case for Ben Bryant
A case for the veteran is never a bad thing. Bryant began his career at Cincinnati and had one year as a starter under his belt, throwing for over 3,000 yards and 14 touchdowns. Bryant is a solid player who can come in and do whatever is asked of him in the offense.
The case for Evan Prater
Prater gives Colin Kaepernick vibes, and it isn’t just the hair. A local player from right in Cincinnati is a long freakish athlete with tools for days. Prater is a plus in the run game with a big-time arm. He’s raw but could pick up some base tenets of the playbook and continue to grow as he plays.
What should the Bearcats do?
Cincinnati loses eight starters/contributors from last season’s dominant defense and might need to lean on their offense more next season. Prater is far and away the better playmaking option but needs to take the job away from Bryant. During practice, Bryant will do the right thing and put the ball where it is supposed to go, but Prater’s upside is undeniable.
