Big Ten: Nebraska Cornhuskers

A team that went 3-9 last season and is losing its starting quarterback who had been there for four years and accounted for over 10,000 all-purpose yards and 80 touchdowns is going to be a dark-horse contender in the Big Ten next year? That seems wild, right?

Well, you can have me committed because I think Nebraska is going to open some eyes in 2022.

Is this a scheduled post? Maybe. Do people say things like this basically every year? Yes. Is there a real reason to buy into the hype this time around? Absolutely.

Martinez is gone, but it was clear that it was time for the two sides to make a change and in come Casey Thompson from Texas and Chubba Purdy from Florida State. Those two are going to be joined by Logan Smothers to create a heck of a quarterback battle this offseason and all are capable of improving the passing game.

The defense was strong last year and I expect that to continue and the offense added plenty of talent to replace departing stars. I’m expecting the Cornhuskers to flip that record around and contend for a Big Ten West title.

Scott Frost is going to jump off the hot seat after an impressive 2022 season.
