Ohio State football is squarely in the mix for another elite quarterback prospect and is now battling USC for Dylan Raiola, the No. 1 QB in 2024.

There are few, if any programs in college football that recruit the quarterback position, as well as the Ohio State football program, does.

The Buckeyes were so loaded with talent at the position, that Quinn Ewers, the No. 1 player from the 2022 class, who reclassified, transferred to Texas.

Ohio State football rebounded though and signed a top-50 quarterback recruit in Devin Brown in 2022 and just recently hosted five-star QB Dante Moore for a visit in 2023.

The Buckeyes’ pursuit of Moore has felt disjointed at times. He’s from Detroit and it would seem like stealing a five-star prospect from Michigan’s backyard would be a top priority, but Notre Dame has done a better job so far.

If Ohio State football decides to really go all-in for Moore, which it should have done before, I don’t see why the Buckeyes wouldn’t at least emerge as a top contender.

However, one thing that might be holding Ohio State football back, is the pursuit of 2024’s top-ranked quarterback which is Dylan Raiola.

Ohio State is trending with Dylan Raiola

Raiola recently visited Ohio State too and the 6-foot-3, 225-pound quarterback is ranked eighth overall in 2024 by the 247 sports composite rankings and the No. 1 overall QB. He’s from Chandler, Arizona, and is actually from the same school as Spencer Rattler.

Rattler committed to Lincoln Riley and Oklahoma and if you didn’t know already, USC football is the top competitor for Raiola, as the Trojans got a pair of their own crystal ball projections for the elite quarterback not that long ago.

However, Steve Wiltfong, the lead recruiting analyst for 247 sports put in a crystal ball projection for Ohio State football on Tuesday, which led Blair Angulo, who had a pick in for USC, to change his pick to Ohio State too.

Greg Biggins, a west-coast recruiting reporter, his still his crystal ball prediction in for the Trojans, but it’s becoming clear that the Buckeyes are now the team to beat in this recruitment.

It’s something to monitor going forward and while it would be a great pickup, it would likely end any hopes Ohio State has of stealing Dante Moore away from Michigan/Notre Dame.
