Arkansas Football: 3 things to watch in 2022 spring game

Arkansas football holds its annual spring game on Saturday afternoon and here’s what we should all be watching for.

Sam Pittman’s Arkansas Razorbacks are fresh off their best season in years, going 9-4 and beating Penn State in the Outback Bowl.

Now, the Razorbacks must figure out how to replicate that success and reload in certain areas where talent has since departed. There was a decent amount of attrition this offseason and losing guys like Trelon Smith and Treylon Burks is going to hurt a little. Luckily, Arkansas has depth at running back and receiver but the battles for the starting jobs will be intense.

The annual spring game (now an open practice this year) will be held on Saturday afternoon and here’s what I’ll be watching for.

3. A new WR1

With Treylon Burks heading off to the NFL, it’s time for Arkansas to figure out who his replacement will be and that will be clearer on Saturday during the spring practice.

We’ll have to wait until the summer to see highly-touted receiver Isaiah Sategna compete for starting snaps at receiver, so that leaves us with guys like Warren Thompson, Ketron Jackson Jr., and Jadon Haselwood. Both are former transfers and Thompson is actually the team’s lead returning receiver while Haselwood led Oklahoma last year with 39 catches. Jackson Jr. is a former four-star receiver with decent size who will be a sophomore breakout candidate.

Keep an eye on those three guys to battle it out for the role of WR1 this Saturday during the open practice and see who Jefferson has the best connection with.
