New coaches for Ole Miss football in 2022

The new offensive coordinator who will take over for Jeff Lebby is Charlie Weis Jr. Weis joins the Rebels from Florida Atlantic, where he spent several years coaching the offense. Weis was one of Kiffin’s assistants at Florida Atlantic.

Kiffin, who has spent time with Weis, will know what to expect and will already have a strong relationship with his new assistant. Weis is a young coach who has a lot to learn and can bring new and fresh ideas to the Rebels.

Another new face for the Rebels is Marquel Blackwell. Blackwell will take over as the new running backs coach next season. He recently was the University of Houston’s running backs coach. Blackwell took over after the 2019 season after spending a year as the co-offensive coordinator and quarterback coach. He turned around a Houston team that struggled to run the ball. In addition, Blackwell helped coach a talented freshman last year, who had a record-setting year with his 961 rushing yards. Blackwell has a chance to coach other talented running backs like Zach Evans next season.

The Rebels are also adding Sam Carter to their staff. He will take over as the defensive backs coach, the same position he held at Arkansas. Carter spent the last two seasons with Arkansas and ran the same scheme as the Rebels did under Durkin. Carter is familiar with the 3-2-6 formation, which the Razorbacks had lots of success using. He will be able to plug right in.

Other New Hires:

Marty Biagi,  Special Teams Coordinator / Outside Linebackers coach

Maurice Crum, Co-Defensive Coordinator / Linebackers

Nick Savage, Strength and Conditioning coach
