UCF football is planning to do something unprecedented once again with spring game jerseys on Saturday, donning a QR code on the back instead of a number.

Just when you think you’ve seen it all, UCF football does something completely out of the ordinary.

Everyone remembers last spring when the Knights wore jerseys that had their Twitter handles on the nameplates which drew plenty of attention because no one had ever done that before. It was a good way to get more eyes on the players and they probably loved the new followers they got.

This year, it’s something even wilder.

In fact, the Knights plan on wearing ‘QR code’ jerseys for the annual spring game on Saturday which will have a link to their school bio and social media, according to Chris Vannini.

This almost feels like an April fool’s joke, but it’s pretty on-brand for the Knights who have done similar things in the past. How well will the QR codes actually work, though? That’s a good question seeing as the players will be constantly moving and the jersey won’t always be in a perfect position to be scanned.

Either way, it shows that the school is all about putting the players first and allowing them to maximize their brands. This may actually help for potential NIL deals, too. A company could scan the code of a player they really like and figure out how to get into contact with them.

While the older crowd may not like this, UCF is doing things right even though this is rather shocking. It’s just a spring game so it’s not like these are permanent, but it’s a good way to draw some eyes to Orlando on Saturday with other spring games like Ohio State, Alabama, and Georgia also going on.
