2. An emerging RB1?

The backfield for Notre Dame should be one of the deepest in the country but it also doesn’t have a clear RB1 right now.

With Kyren Williams moving on, Chris Tyree is the early favorite to win the starting job after rushing for 718 yards and five touchdowns on 5.6 yards per carry over the past two seasons. He was a breakout star in 2020 and took a slight step back last season but has shown that he can shoulder the load. Will he stand out as the top rusher in the spring game?

Tyree will be pushed by Logan Diggs who had 230 yards and three touchdowns as a true freshman last season, actually out-rushing everyone not named Kyren Williams and Tyler Buchner. We’ll see if he has taken another step this offseason and is ready to take over.

Sleeping on Audric Estime would also be a mistake. He has the body to be an elite back and he can absorb contact and make guys miss, but right now he looks like the third option. He could make up some serious ground with a huge performance on Saturday.

Jadarian Price is enrolled early as a freshman and could make some noise, but we may have to wait another year for him.

My money is on Tyree, but I’m also a big fan of Diggs and Estime. This will be fun.
