With the 13th pick in the 2022 NFL Draft, the Eagles selected Jordan Davis. How will the former Georgia defensive tackle do in the NFL?

Jordan Davis, in a word, is big — 340 pounds big, to be exact.

Normally, that would pigeonhole him into a 3-down nose tackle, but Davis’ athletic ability is special. He scored a perfect 10 on Kent Lee Platte’s Relative Athletic Score, and it shows on film. The Georgia product has exceptionally quick hands that allow him to take control of big interior linemen with ease.

That size and those quick hands are also bolstered by extreme agility and speed. Davis ran a 4.78 40-yard dash time, and it shows on film. He can chase down plays that go away from him, or he can just run right through a center. The ability to get through gaps makes him a devastating run stopper.

There have been concerns that Davis is not an every-down player. Indeed, Georgia did take him off the field on passing downs at points. Yet, even if this were true, his ability on first and second down means he can still provide tons and tons of value to a defense.

What does Jordan Davis’ role with the Eagles look like?

He comes into an Eagles defense that needs a bit of juice. While Javon Hargrave is a solid defensive tackle, franchise mainstay Fletcher Cox is aging. With only one more season in front of him, the Eagles were clearly thinking to think about Cox’s replacement.

Although Cox plays a 3-technique with the Eagles, Davis’ athletic ability means he can slide into that role right away without much trouble.

Jordan Davis is the rare franchise game-changer at nose tackle, and the pick by the Eagles is absolutely wonderful. This 2022 NFL Draft for them has started out with a bang.
