2022 NFL Draft: Grading Titans’ No. 18 pick of Treylon Burks
The Titans traded away AJ Brown and then replaced him with Arkansas wide receiver Treylon Burks with the No. 18 overall pick. Here’s how we graded it.
Treylon Burks was one of the players rising up NFL draft boards prior to the first round on Thursday and the Tennessee Titans have now tabbed him to be A.J. Brown’s replacement.
It was no secret that the Titans were in the market for a wide receiver going into the draft, in part because of the failed contract negotiations with Brown, who was traded away to the Eagles on Thursday night, which gave the Titans the 18th overall pick.
Needing a replacement for Brown, the Titans grabbed easily the best wideout left on the board in Treylon Burks out of Arkansas, and here’s how we grade the pick.
Grading Treylon Burks to Titans at No. 18
Burks is 6-foot-3, 225 pounds, and is different than guys like Garrett Wilson, Chris Olave, and Jameson Williams. As Burks showed against Texas A&M and even against Alabama last season, he can get deep and create explosive plays, even with a 4.54 in the 40. He can also get yards after the catch.
That’s one of his specialties and that’s something that A.J. Brown used to excel at. Ryan Tannehill is a veteran quarterback and he will love having a receiver that can take a short incompletion and turn it into a big play.
Burks does that as well as anyone in the draft and he’s hard to bring down. Hell, he could probably even run the ball like Deebo Samuel if the Titans wanted him to.
Either way, he’s a much cheaper option than Brown and if the Titans couldn’t work out a new deal, this best was the best course of action.
