NFL Draft 2022: Grading Giants’ No. 7 pick of Evan Neal
By Daniel Walsh
The New York Football Giants had the seventh pick in the 2022 NFL Draft and they chose Evan Neal. How does this pick grade out for the Giants?
The Giants are starting a new era in their franchise with the coming of new head coach Brian Daboll and General Manager Joe Schoen. Usually, new regimes want their own ‘guy,’ or quarterback they selected which looks to be the Giants’ case as they declined to pick up Daniel Jones’ 5th-year option.
They’re obviously sticking with Jones for his 5th year and if he plays well then that’s great news, but he needs some help. It’s always smart to build from the trenches out and you can never have too many great offensive linemen.
And with their seventh pick, they might have gotten the best player in the draft in Evan Neal. I think they got an amazing steal in Thibodeaux and now they just got the best player in the draft.
Evan Neal is not only a physical freak, but he can play everywhere on the line by playing three different positions over his 40 games at Alabama. He brings incredible flexibility having played left guard, left tackle, and right tackle.
The Giants are absolutely killing this draft. Evan Neal is an amazing pass protector, and run blocker, and is someone who the team can depend on to keep Jones upright.
I give this grade an A++. The Giants could not have gotten a better pick. Neal has an amazing combination of size, speed, strength, and football IQ. He will be a day one impact starter who could be this draft Quenton Nelson
Grade: A+
