As the 2022 college football season draws closer, it’s time to take a way too early look at the potential depth chart for the West Virginia University Mountaineers.

With the Mountaineers’ annual Gold-Blue Spring Football Game behind us, it’s finally time to look to the 2022 season, and with that, the depth chart.

West Virginia football will be a new-look team this season with the departure of some key positions on both sides of the ball. The Mountaineers will have a brand new (and hopefully not terrible) starting quarterback after the transfer of Jarret Doege.

Leddie Brown graduated and signed with an NFL team leaving West Virginia’s running back position open. It seems like every single defensive back on the roster is gone meaning it will all be new guys and the middle linebacker even graduated.

Now if that sounds like a lot of positional turnover, well, that’s because it is. It’s also not the complete list of positions that’ll have new starters which is what this blog is for. To show you.

Now for times sake, both mine and yours, I will only be getting into the people who will be starting.

It should go without saying, but this is a way too early depth chart prediction for West Virginia football. There are several months before the start of the 2022 season and a lot of things could happen to the roster before then.

An unknown player could emerge to take a starting position and players in the starting spots now could lose it for any number of reasons. The summer is a grind for a reason and is important in evaluating everyone on the field to put the Mountaineers in the best position to win.

So, by all means, this depth chart can change by the first game but if the season started right now this would be a look at all the starters on the offensive and defensive side of the ball and yes, even special teams.
