Texas is surging

With the report of Arch Manning’s recruitment essentially down to Texas and Georgia, the Longhorns have started to surge according to the On3.com prediciton machine.

Since Alabama’s chances have faded now to the low teens (12 percent), Texas is now the favorite with a 55-percent chance of winning the 5-star QB’s commitment. Georgia is still in the mix though at 29 percent and again, this is just a prediction machine.

It works a little differently than the crystal ball system at 247 sports. A few recruiting experts at On3.com have projected him to Texas but none from 247 sports have put in a pick for Manning to land anywhere, but the prediction machine takes visits and other things into consideration.

The idea of winning a national championship at a place like Texas is appealing to Manning, especially since it hasn’t happened since Vince Young.

However, the Longhorns also haven’t seriously contended for a national title since the days of Colt McCoy and even second-year head coach Steve Sarkisian had a losing record in his first season on the job.

So Texas is a risk. Plus, Quinn Ewers, the former No. 1 QB from the 2022 class is on the roster and Manning would have to compete against him to win the job as a freshman in 2023.

But he had a strong relationship with Sark from his time at Alabama before and he’s visited Texas frequently. The Longhorns have the most to prove in terms of showing they can be elite and you have to wonder, would Manning pledge before seeing results on the field in 2022?

With Georiga, that wouldn’t be a concern and lastly, we get to the Bulldogs.
