What it means for 2023 quarterbacks

It’s interesting that Ohio State football has its 2024 quarterback commitment because there were lots of lingering questions about what the Buckeyes were doing in 2023.

It seemed like Dante Moore, a five-star quarterback recruit out of Detroit, would have been the top target for the Buckeyes and they did host him for a visit last month, however, Ohio State has never really made a strong push for Moore.

Maybe that had to do with Raiola and the fact that it’s pretty hard to land elite signal-callers in consecutive classes. Ohio State did well to land McCord and Brown in 2021 and 2022, but neither of those guys was the No. 1 overall prospect as Raiola is or even on the level of Moore.

Many believe that Dante Moore isn’t that far behind Malachi Nelson or Arch Manning in the 2023 recruiting class but from an Ohio State perspective, there was no way the Buckeyes were going to get Raiola and Moore, particularly because Moore wants to play right away.

The Buckeyes were in a better position for Raiola anyway and his commitment will also give Ohio State time to see what the others on the roster can do because unless Day and company really like another 2023 quarterback, I don’t see them signing one.

With the depth chart the way it is, it’s not needed.
