Notre Dame football added its second top-200 commitment in the 2024 recruiting class already, while former HC Brian Kelly landed a 4-star at LSU.

It’s been documented how well Notre Dame football has been recruiting in the 2023 class as the Irish have the No. 1 overall class according to the On3.com team rankings.

That haul up to this point includes 13 total commitments. 12 of those verbal commitments are from blue-chip prospects (4 or 5-star recruits) with 11 four-stars and a five-star in Keon Keeley.

But Notre Dame football’s recruiting momentum isn’t limited to the 2023 recruiting class as the Irish landed its second commitment in 2024 on Monday.

Owen Wafle is ranked 175th overall according to the 247 sports composite rankings and while he’s ranked a little lower according to the On3 consensus (227th), landing the 6-foot-3, 275-pound edge rusher was still a solid get for the Irish.

Wafle is out of New Jersey and Notre Dame football beat out teams like Michigan State, Boston College, Rutgers, and others for his commitment.

It will be interesting to see how Wafle develops and if he eventually turns into a defensive lineman, but having a guy on the interior with some pass-rush ability is never a bad thing and either way, the Irish keep building on their recruiting momentum with each commitment.

LSU football adds another blue-chip recruit

Former Notre Dame head coach Brian Kelly also added a four-star commitment on Monday, in the 2023 class, as four-star cornerback Daylen Austin from California committed to LSU.

It was the sixth pledge for LSU and Kelly this cycle according to the 247 sports composite rankings and he’s ranked 16th at the position. The On3 consensus has him at 154th overall and Austin was 18th among cornerbacks but either way, he’s top-notch.

All six of LSU football’s commitments are blue chips and all are ranked 255th or higher. The latest addition to the class of Austin, a 6-foot-1, 180-pound corner, pushed LSU to eighth in the 2023 team rankings according to On3.com.

Like Notre Dame, LSU is off to a solid start, it just needs to land its quarterback, and also like Notre Dame, Dante Moore is the top target. That wil be interesting to follow as both the Fighting Irish and their former head coach have momentum on the recruiting trail.
