Former college football quarterback and current analyst Danny Kanell asked on Wednesday when is the best time to play a game, so we tackle the topic.

One interesting topic that came to light on Twitter on Wednesday was a simple question regarding college football kickoffs: when is the best time to play a college football game?

It’s sort of an interesting question and it was posed to college football fans on Twitter by analyst Danny Kanell who played for Florida State and later for the New York Giants in the NFL.

Of course, there are three major time windows for college football games and they are (according to Eastern Standard time) 12:00, 3:30, and 8:00 p.m. Those are the classic times and when Kanell posted the question on Twitter, thousands of fans responded.

What is the best time for a college football game?

Of course, this is subjective, as we learned. Media members said they tended to prefer earlier games for obvious (work) reasons, especially because those 8 p.m. kickoffs aren’t the best for sleeping habits or deadlines (where they still exist).

My personal favorite is the 3:30 p.m. window and that’s for a few reasons. While the Noon kickoff is the best for TV viewing, since you want to watch college football on a Saturday as soon as possible, there’s nothing quite like watching afternoon turn to evening like in the Rose Bowl or another cool setting.

It just adds to the setting when the game starts during the sunshine and ends in the night.

Morning games probably aren’t as fun for fans in terms of tailgating and the entire experience and even though night games are really exciting, outside of students, like those at Texas who are petitioning to have the Texas-Alabama game played at night, most would rather watch a game played at Noon or 3:30.
