Florida State Football: 3 upperclassmen who need to step up in 2022
By Dante Pryor
1. Jordan Travis, QB
This fall, there is perhaps no more important player in Tallahassee, Florida, than quarterback Jordan Travis. Head coach Mike Norvell had no issues with allowing often-injured Chuba Purdy to transfer, and — despite Tate Rodemaker and AJ Duffy making strides — head coach Mike Norvell has made it clear Travis is QB1.
Travis remaining the incumbent makes sense for the Seminoles. He might be the most dynamic offensive player for the Seminoles this season. Travis can make plays with his legs and has shown improvement as a passer.
Travis’ ability as a runner is critical because the Seminoles’ offensive line is poor. Travis can elude trouble and either throw or pick up yards as a runner. Defenses have to account for his ability as a runner in the Zone-Read and RPO game.
Neither Rodemaker nor Duffy have that ability. Travis’ ability as a runner can mask an offensive line under construction.
If the Seminoles want to win that extra game and get to a bowl, Travis has to improve as a passer. While the receivers need to be more consistent in getting open and holding on to the football, Travis needs to get the ball there more consistently.
If Travis can improve his ball placement and overall accuracy, Florida State can take the next step.
