Justyn Ross from Clemson football went undrafted in 2022 but landed with the Chiefs and he caught the attention of Pat Mahomes with a dazzling catch.

After dominating in consecutive College Football Playoff victories for Clemson football back in the 2018 season, Justyn Ross seemed destined for NFL stardom.

In the semifinal that year against Notre Dame, he caught six passes for 148 yards and two touchdowns, then followed that up by torching Alabama in the national championship game to the tune of six catches for 153 yards and a score.

That night, Ross seemed like a future first-round pick and he followed that performance up with a 1,000-yard season as a sophomore in 2019. Injuries struck though and he missed all of 2020.

Last season, he was limited to 10 games for Clemson football, but Ross still caught 46 passes for 512 yards and caught three touchdowns. However, his yards-per-reception average dropped to 11 after it was 21 yards as a freshman and 13 as a sophomore.

That injury history caused the former Clemson football star to be undrafted in April’s draft, however, he wound up in a solid place with Kansas City, and this week in OTAs, Ross turned heads with this one-handed grab.

Justyn Ross impresses Patrick Mahomes

It’s a positive sign for Ross that Mahomes has noticed him and is least throwing him the football. Ross could be a major steal for the Chiefs if he pans out and can return to the form he showed back in 2018 and 2019.

While Ross was injured in 2020 and wasn’t quite the same player in 2021, he should be closer to himself this season and at least has a year under his belt because that first season back after an injury is usually the most difficult.

Of course, the return from spinal surgery is more of an unknown as compared to something like a knee but Ross showed flashes last season and for KC, which traded Tyreek Hill this offseason, it was well worth the gamble after the draft.
