Jaxson Dart has some big shoes to fill with Matt Corral gone, but the new Ole Miss football QB1 will be a legit Heisman threat in 2022.

Losing a player the caliber of Matt Corral is usually a death sentence to any hope for contention but when you’re led by the self-proclaimed Portal King, you know you’ll have a plus replacement.

Lane Kiffin has Ole Miss football contending in the SEC again thanks to his heavy hand in the portal and after landing Jaxson Dart from USC, all worry about the quarterback position following the departure of Corral subsided.

Dart was the No. 69 overall recruit in the 2021 class and he spent a year at USC, filling in for an injured Kedon Slovis and passing for 1,353 yards and nine touchdowns with five picks. Not too bad for a true freshman who was thrust into a starting spot under a head coach on the hot seat.

With the coaching change at USC, he decided to enter the transfer portal and Ole Miss just seemed like a match made in heaven. The Rebels just lost their Heisman-caliber starting quarterback to the NFL draft and Luke Altmyer didn’t seem quite ready to take the reins. And playing in a Kiffin offense isn’t such a bad thing either.

Dart possesses solid size at 6-foot-3 and 215 pounds, has a strong, accurate arm, and isn’t afraid of the spotlight. He is a perfect fit in Oxford and he’s going to excel.

There will be plenty of weapons at his disposal and he now has a head coach who’s going to let him loose. Dart is one of the top Heisman favorites to start the season and it’s not too late (yet) to jump on the hype train as we all ride it into the sunset when he’s an All-American at the end of the year.
