Notre Dame football has been losing momentum with Dante Moore but the Irish are trending as the new favorite for another 5-star QB.

For months Notre Dame football has been viewed as the favorite to land five-star quarterback Dante Moore in the 2023 class.

And while the Irish are still heavily in the mix for Moore, who is from Michigan, they are trending in the right direction with another five-star QB from the state of Michigan.

This one is CJ Carr, who is a five-star in the 2024 class and the grandson of former Michigan football head coach Lloyd Carr.

Carr is ranked 25th overall in the 2024 class according to the 247 composite rankings and even though Michigan was the favorite at one point, getting multiple expert projections for the 6-foot-4 quarterback from Saline, Michigan, Notre Dame football has clear momentum.

Earlier this spring, Notre Dame football got a crystal ball projection for Carr from Steve Wiltfong of 247 sports and ahead of another visit from Carr to South Bend this week, Tom Loy of Irish Illustrated has also predicted Carr to land with the Irish.

In addition to Loy, Michigan recruiting expert EJ Holland who covers the Wolverines for On3 also put in an expert prediction for Carr to wind up at Notre Dame and suddenly, the On3 prediction machine gives Notre Dame a better than 94 percent chance of winning his commitment.

What does Carr’s trend mean for Dante Moore?

From the start, I’ve said that Carr and Dante Moore weren’t going to end up in the same program and that still feels true. It’s possible but getting Carr could definitely impact the recruitment of Moore.

Still, the objective for Notre Dame football has always been to get Carr or Moore. Marcus Freeman and Tommy Rees have done outstanding jobs with both.

Moore has been trending away a little and recently visited Michigan. He’s also expected to visit Texas A&M later this month but the recruitments of Jaden Rashada and Avery Johnson could take A&M and Oregon out of the race for Moore.

If so, Moore’s recruitment could still come down to Michigan and Notre Dame and with a decision looking to come now in the fall, it feels like Notre Dame now has a much better chance with Carr and getting him to commit as soon as possible is the next objective.
