Texas A&M Football: Can Aggies land 4-star QB Jaden Rashada?

Texas A&M football has been scrambling to add a quarterback in the 2023 class since the decommitment of Eli Holstein and Jaden Rashada could be it.

In the recruitment of four-star quarterback Jaden Rashada in the 2023 recruiting class, it’s crunch time and Texas A&M football appears to be making a move, at least according to one college football recruiting expert.

Chad Simmons, a national recruiting expert for On3.com, put out an article detailing the latest in the race for Rashada (subscription required), a top-50 quarterback (No. 42 overall), and a four-star recruit. He said that “One program has made a big move in recent days.”

That program is Texas A&M football.

It was clear that Florida had worked its way near the top of Rashada’s list and maybe in the top spot overall, but Miami was still a contender and was trying to get Rashada to take his final official visit this week in South Florida.

However, Simmons reports that it likely won’t happen. You’ll need to read the rest for the full update, but it’s safe to say that Texas A&M is still in the mix and as I said on Monday, when I re-ranked the finalists, you can’t count out Jimbo Fisher and the Aggies.

Will Texas A&M get Rashada?

If you assume that Miami hasn’t made a move, then it feels like it’s Texas A&M and Florida. LSU also hosted him for an official visit, but there hasn’t been much buzz about the Tigers and they are another team that’s strongly in the mix for five-star Dante Moore, also in the 2023 class.

A&M is actually supposed to host Moore for an unofficial visit this weekend. While the Aggies are trying to become a factor in his recruitment, it probably would be a better sign if he canceled his visit because that means Rashada is likely going to commit.

It’s hard for me to see Moore taking a visit to College Station on his own dime if Rashada is already going to be in Texas A&M’s class.

Moore mentioned Eli Holstein’s commitment as a reason he didn’t show as much interest in the Aggies before, so it’s safe to assume that landing a top-50 prospect at the position would likely end A&M’s chances.

However, Justin Hopkins of Scoop Duck put in a pick for Rashada to land at Florida. That’s good news for the Gators but the biggest takeaway from that is that Oregon is out.

Florida does have a 41-percent chance according to the On3.com prediction machine and that’s up from 26 percent, while the Aggies dropped from 23 percent to 17.

Yet, those percentages can change and there still hasn’t been a crystal ball put in for Rashada from anyone at 247 sports. Simmons put his pick in for Ole Miss and hasn’t changed it, but at this point, it really feels like it has narrowed to a battle between Florida and Texas A&M.

We’ll know soon where the Aggies stand and if Dante Moore does plan to make his visit, I’d take that as a bad sign for A&M’s hopes of getting Rashada’s commitment this weekend.
