Thoughts on Avery Johnson

This weekend is going to be a major recruiting weekend for Oregon football and one of the top guys on campus in Eugene is four-star QB Avery Johnson, another top target at the position. Here’s what Hopkins wrote about Johnson heading into the weekend:

"“A big trip for the Ducks as they look to finish with a 2023 quarterback. It’s Oregon and K-State going to head-to-head at the moment for Johnson.”"

Johnson is ranked 229th overall according to the On3 consensus rankings for the 2023 class and 12th among QBs. However, he’s going to rise up the rankings at some point, even just a little because he’s been generating buzz all spring with his play.

The 6-foot-2, 175-pound passer out of Kansas, is a dual-threat option and following his visit to rival Washington, he was back at Kansas State, which has the only crystal ball projection from 247 sports at this point.

However, the Ducks have made a strong push and the On3 prediction machine gives them a 28-percent chance already to get his commitment and this official visit could seal the deal.

That’s what Oregon football has to be hoping for, at least according to what Hopkins wrote. Dante Moore also looms but are the Ducks willing to wait and miss on Avery Johnson?

There has been some talk about taking Johnson and still going after Moore. It’s possible that happens but getting two top QBs in one class is never easy and my guess is that if the Ducks take Johnson, it becomes an uphill battle for Dante Moore.
