One of college football’s best coaches

Kyle Whittingham is one of the best-kept secrets in college football. He’s been the head coach of Utah football for 18 years and 15 of those seasons have ended in bowl games.

Whittingham has won the Sugar Bowl after upsetting Alabama and finished ranked No. 2 in the final AP poll after an undefeated season. Not only that but his bowl record is exceptional. The Utes have gone 11-4 in bowls and that tells you a lot about a coach.

While Rising was great last season, the Utah football defense was just as important as it led the Pac-12 in sacks and tackles for loss a year ago.

Utah sent multiple players to the first round of the NFL draft, but its stock is full of talent and experience. Junior Tafuna was the Defensive Freshman of the Year last season and Van Fillinger is another edge rusher with talent and each could have double-digit sack potential.

The secondary is solid and Utah could easily have the best defense in the Pac-12, which combined with a talented dual-threat quarterback and an elite head coach, is an impressive combination.

Yet, there is one other factor in the Utes’ favor.
