UCLA football doesn’t have a quarterback commitment yet in the 2023 recruiting class but that could be changing soon after offering Luke Duncan.

If you’re a UCLA football fan, you know the Bruins have a particular strategy when it comes to recruiting. Much of their focus in recent years has been on the transfer portal and it makes sense.

You still need to add talented high school recruits too though and the Bruins have started doing that in the 2023 class as they picked up multiple four-star commitments last month.

UCLA football has four total commitments this cycle but signed just 11 high school recruits in 2022, so the Bruins likely won’t have a huge class.

What they do need though, is a quarterback and after a recent offer to Luke Duncan from Orinda, California, it looks like UCLA might have found its man for the 2023 recruiting class.

Duncan is a three-star prospect and is ranked as the No. 38 quarterback in the 2023 recruiting class according to the 247 sports composite rankings, as well as No. 788 overall. He’s 6-foot-5, 185 pounds and the UCLA football staff watched him throw this week at the Sac State camp.

UCLA football is the new leader for 3-star QB

California was thought to be the leader before UCLA offered and the Bears even got a crystal ball projection. Duncan is scheduled to visit Cal on June 24 but since the Bruins offered, three 247 experts have put in crystal balls for him to land in Pasadena.

Chip Kelly is obviously a name that recruits know well and he’s had success at the college level with quarterbacks, which is something he can sell to Duncan and other QB recruits.

It appears to have worked in this situation. It will be important to get Duncan on campus and we’ll see if the Bruins try to get him in for an unofficial visit before he goes to Cal.

At this point, he might not even visit Cal. If he does, the Bears would still have to be considered a threat on some level, but if UCLA football gets Duncan on campus, that should seal the deal and backup all the crystal ball projections.

The On3.com prediction machine also gives UCLA football a 99-percent chance of winning this commitment which would be huge, because frankly, there aren’t many QBs left in the 2023 class.
