Texas football hosted five-star QB Arch Manning over the weekend and also landed the commitment of one of his high school teammates. Will it help the Longhorns?

Five-star QB Arch Manning has been busy taking official visits and this past weekend, he visited the Texas football program.

While the Longhorns have emerged as one of two favorites for Arch Manning along with Georgia, it’s hard to tell when Manning is going to make his decision and even harder to tell which way he’s leaning.

Georgia seemed to impress him earlier with its official visit and the Bulldogs have a lot to sell any recruit after winning the national championship and boasting among the most talented rosters in all of college football.

However, Texas football has stayed at the forefront of Manning’s recruitment for a reason. He’s visited the Longhorns as much as any program, including Georgia. He’s been to both schools four times, as well as Alabama four times.

Still, there haven’t been any crystal ball projections and Texas football still holds a slight edge according to the On3 prediction machine which gives the Longhorns a 50-percent shot of getting it done. Georgia is at 44 percent.

It’s hard to say if the visit this weekend helped. It seems as if Manning should know what he needs to know about each program at this point. Now he just needs to decide.

Could recent Texas commitment help with Arch Manning?

One thing that could help Texas football though is the commitment on Sunday of Isidore Newman teammate Will Randle, a three-star tight end ranked No. 499 overall in the On3 consensus rankings.

Randle is a solid commitment regardless of his ties to Manning. He’s got the ability to flex out in the slot or out wide. He’s 6-foot-4, 220 pounds, and was a reliable target for Manning in the passing game as a tight end and even an H-back.

Randle also played on the defensive side of the ball and is a solid athlete. He plays basketball, which is always a likable thing in a tight end and he’s got edge potential too.

Either way, the headline for many is a teammate of Arch Manning committed to Texas. Manning isn’t going to commit to the Longhorns just because a former teammate does. It might help him feel more familiar though.

Manning seems to be really high on the coaching staff and the chance to build his own legacy at Texas and maybe the addition of Randle makes committing to Texas football a little easier.
