Huge QB crystal ball for Kansas State Football in 2023 class

Avery Johnson is the top overall target for Kansas State football in the 2023 recruiting class and Wildcat fans got some good news on Monday. 

When it comes to recruiting, one important thing is always keeping top talent close to home, and Kansas State football has taken a step closer to doing that in the 2023 recruiting class with highly-ranked quarterback Avery Johnson.

Johnson is a four-star quarterback according to the 247 sports composite rankings. He’s ranked 213th overall via the composite rankings and is No. 12 among quarterbacks in the 2023 class, making him one of the top-ranked uncommitted QBs. He’s also the No. 1 ranked player in the state of Kansas, which makes him a tip-top target for Kansas State football.

Here’s a look at his scouting report from 247 sports’ Gabe Brooks:

"“True dual-threat QB with quantifiable athleticism that manifests in multiple sports. Great tester with verified 40 speed in the 4.5 range. Displays impressive touch on downfield shots to the perimeter. Good improvisational playmaker. Throws with a smooth, repeatable stroke that fosters a “catchable” ball. Generally stays on top of the ball. Accuracy and consistency can improve as evidenced by 56 completion percentage as a sophomore. Needs to build velocity and vertical strength, which should come with added mass. Raw in some ways but a very athletic playmaker at the QB spot who looks like he possesses ample developmental potential. Projects to the high-major level and could eventually become a difference-making impact player.”"

The Wildcats have done a spectacular job with Johnson, who is 6-foot-2, 212 pounds, and out of Maize, Kansas. Johnson has been garnering more national attention thanks to his performance this spring and more big-name programs have entered the mix.

Johnson visited Washington in the first part of June and said that he was “blown away” by that. The next weekend he visited Kansas State football. The Wildcats also did a really good job of hosting Johnson and it was clear they were making him their No. 1 priority.

However, an official visit to Oregon loomed and that was this past weekend. Oregon is also heavily involved with five-star QB Dante Moore, who visited Oregon in March. But there was some thought that Oregon was still going to push for Johnson because it doesn’t want to wait for Moore and frankly, Johnson is a big-time prospect in his own right.

Why the timing is key for Kansas State

Yet, one day after his official visit to Eugene, another Kansas State football insider has projected Johnson to the Wildcats with a crystal ball projection. What makes it convincing is the fact that it was put in with a confidence level of nine on a 1-10 scale.

Kansas State has received two crystal balls from recruiting experts that cover K-State and each pick has a confidence level of eight or higher. KSU also has a 68-percent chance to win his commitment according to the On3.com prediction machine and it seems clear now that the Wildcats are the favorite to land their top target in 2023.

And if it works out that way, that would be absolutely huge for Kansas State football.
