Penn State football has put together a stellar 2023 recruiting class even if Ohio State and Michigan State have stolen some of the thunder.

The Penn State football program is fresh off a pair of disappointing seasons but that hasn’t stopped James Franklin and company from killing it on the recruiting trail.

It doesn’t get talked about that much because of what Texas A&M, Georgia, Alabama, and Ohio State did last year but the Nittany Lions signed the No. 6 overall class according to the 247 sports composite rankings and it featured three five-star prospects including the No. 4 QB Drew Allar.

Well, despite a lackluster campaign in 2021, the Nittany Lions haven’t slowed down at all on the recruiting trail, and thanks to the commitment of top-100 pass rusher Tomarrion Parker on Tuesday, they now have the No. 3 overall class in the 2023 cycle.

Penn State football adds another big-time commitment

Parker is a 6-foot-4, 255-pound defensive end who ranks as the No. 8 defensive lineman in the entire 2023 class, and what’s even more impressive is that Penn State football went into the state of Alabama, in the heart of SEC territory, and landed his commitment.

Georgia, the defending national champions, were involved and even got a crystal ball projection at one point for the No. 80 ranked prospect overall. Over the past two seasons of high school ball, he registered 26.5 sacks.

Penn State football hosted him for a visit last weekend and seemed to seal the deal. Michigan State had a visit scheduled this weekend and both Florida and Tennessee had official visits set for the fall, but the Nittany Lions have won over another elite recruit.

Parker is the third top-100 commitment for Penn State football in the 2023 class and nine of the 14 commitments are ranked as four-star prospects giving the Nittany Lions a blue-chip ratio of 60 percent which is right where you need to be to be a national title contender.

Now, Frankin and Penn State football just have to get the production on the field to match what’s happening on the recruiting trail.
