There were plenty of fireworks on the Fourth of July weekend when it comes to college football recruiting and here are five teams starting the month on fire.

The holiday weekend is always good for some fireworks as far as college football recruiting is concerned and the Fourth of July didn’t disappoint.

There were a number of commitments over the weekend and even though we are just five days into July, there was a bunch of college football recruiting news over the weekend, including a bunch of significant commitments.

However, Miami football stole the show on Monday, by landing the first five-star recruit of Mario Cristobal’s tenure. The Hurricanes have clear momentum on the recruiting trail and it has carried over from June to July just as it did for Notre Dame football, Arkansas football, and others who are off to hot starts this month.

We begin though with Mario’s impressive efforts in South Beach.

Francis Mauigoa was expected to choose Tennessee at one point, however, when his commitment came on Monday, the No. 1 offensive tackle and ninth-ranked prospect in the 2023 college football recruiting class pledged to Miami football.

It was a huge win for Cristobal who built a recruiting machine at Oregon and is doing the same at Miami. This is the second top-50 commitment of the class in the past few weeks (4-star QB Jaden Rashada was the other) and the Canes are now ninth in the 2023 team composite rankings from 247 sports.

Riley Williams, the No. 2 tight end in 2023 and No. 66 overall according to the 247 sports composite rankings, also pledged to Miami this month.

So with three top-100 commitments in less than 10 days’ time, it’s safe to say the Hurricanes are as hot as anyone on the trail right now.
