5 college football teams with the most turnaround potential in 2022
2. Texas Longhorns
Texas fans still have nightmares over the now-infamous Sam Ehlinger “we’re back” proclamation after a Sugar Bowl win over Georgia in 2018. That phrase can be used to trigger all Longhorn fans, so use it wisely.
The Longhorns now enter the 2022 season as one of the most intriguing teams in college football under Steve Sarkisian. Despite going 5-7 in his first year as head coach after a 4-1 start, Sarkisian gets a pass because, well, it was his first head coaching job in a while and he’s a disciple of Nick Saban and they usually fare pretty well.
Sarkisian should be more than pleased with the amount of talent he stockpiled for the upcoming season, led by Ohio State quarterback transfer Quinn Ewers.
Ewers should win the job, but there’s a chance Hudson Card beats him out. I don’t think that’ll be the case and he’ll have one of the best receivers in college football to toss the rock to as Xavier Worthy returns. Oh, and arguably the best running back in the nation is back as Bijan Robinson will look to lead a Heisman campaign. Did I mention that the offense added Agiye Hall (Alabama), Isaiah Neyor (Wyoming), Jahleel Billingsley (Alabama), and Tarique Milton (Iowa State) from the transfer portal? This offense is loaded.
Defensively, improvement is needed, but there’s nowhere to go but up for this group and I think it’ll do just that with some impressive recruits coming in as well as some solid transfers.
