With the 2022 season right around the corner, college football recruiting is heating up, and here are the six biggest winners so far in the month of July.

The race for the No. 1 spot in the 2023 college football recruiting class is getting heated but after Ohio State took the top spot for a short while, Notre Dame football surged back into the front.

Notre Dame football has been recruiting at a really high rate under Marcus Freeman and the Irish have the No. 1 class right now according to the 247 sports team rankings and also the On3 team rankings for the 2023 college football recruiting class.

Notre Dame’s work on the trail has been steady and consistent. Last month, the Irish added five-star QB CJ Carr in the 2024 class, and the commitments have continued for the Irish in July as they have added four pledges from top-200 recruits in the 2023 class this month.

Four-star wide receiver Jaden Greathouse is the latest. Rico Flores, another four-star wideout also committed along with DBs Christian Grey and Micah Bell.

As we said before, people might get sick of Notre Dame football being named a college football recruiting winner, but just about every week, Freeman is getting at least one big commitment.

Four this month and the fact that the Irish are still sitting in the top spot in both major rankings for the 2023 class should make Notre Dame fans pretty happy. We also think it makes the Irish one of the big recruiting winners so far in July.

Here are five more:

Other notable mentions: Oregon, Florida, Michigan, and Clemson

Tied fifth (with ND) Penn State football

It might come as a surprise to some but Penn State football has the third-ranked recruiting class right now in 2023 according to 247 sports. The Nittany Lions have 19 commitments and 14 of them rank as four or five-star prospects giving them an impressive blue-chip ratio (73 percent).

That’s elite and that ratio was helped this month with the commitment of three recruits ranked in the top 137 of the 247 sports composite rankings including Ta’Mere Robinson on Friday.

Robinson is a 6-foot-4, 225-pound edge rusher ranked 137th overall in the 2023 college football recruiting class but is the No. 3 player in the state of Pennsylvania.

Add in the commitments of four-star LB Tony Rojas (No. 107 overall) and safety Elliot Washingon (No. 110), and it’s been a good week, a good month, and a good recruiting cycle so far for Penn State football.
