Georgia Tech Football: 2022 preview and predictions for Yellow Jackets
The Georgia Tech offense
One of the most promising things for Georgia Tech heading into the 2022 season is the fact that Jeff Sims is back at quarterback. He completed 60 percent of his passes last season while throwing 12 touchdowns compared to seven interceptions. He also rushed for over 300 yards and scored four touchdowns.
The running game is going to have to replace its top two running backs, but Sims can run the ball and Dontae Smith averaged more than five yards per attempt in 2021.
Georgia Tech also has some talented wideouts returning from last season’s team. The growing pains have been real, but some talent is developing such as wideout Malachi Carter, who caught 37 passes for nearly 500 yards last season and Kalani Norris also flashed potential with an average of 17 yards per reception.
The offensive line will have to replace the majority of its starters but to combat that, Collins and the Yellow Jackets added a number of veteran offensive linemen in the transfer portal to fortify the offensive front.
We’ll talk about the defense next, but if Georgia Tech wants to get back to a bowl game, it will have to finish better than 93rd in total offense in 2022.
