Ole Miss Football: 3 breakout candidates for the 2022 season
Like Zach Evans, Jaxson Dart’s head coach left the program and he, too, decided to enter the transfer portal. He also jumped at the opportunity to join the offensive-minded Rebels led by Lane Kiffin and replace a big name at quarterback in Matt Corral.
Luke Altmyer had a tryout, of sorts, for QB1 in the Sugar Bowl, but his performance did nothing but make Kiffin seek out a transfer and Dart was one of the best on the market.
Like the other two guys on this list as well, Dart is a former top-100 recruit and he had high hopes of becoming the next great quarterback at USC until major changes rocked the program. He decided his best option was to join a school that would likely make him QB1 right away.
Ole Miss offered that.
Dart had a solid showing in his first year with USC after being thrown in with the wolves to replace an injured Kedon Slovis, passing for 1,353 yards, nine touchdowns, and five picks while completing just over 61 percent of his throws.
Now, joining an Ole Miss offense that will play to his strengths and let him air it out while showing off his athleticism, Dart is going to have a monster year. I’m going to guess over 3,000 passing yards, 25 touchdowns, and under 10 picks for his stat line.
