The Texas A&M football recruiting class has been a little disappointing so far in 2023 but that started to change with the commitment of Chase Bisontis.

One cycle after signing the best recruiting class in the history of the 247 sports composite rankings, Texas A&M football started the weekend ranked outside the top 60.

For whatever reason, the Aggies were in a bit of a commitment drought. Eli Holstein de-committing and then announcing for Alabama was a blow, but even as we named Texas A&M football as one of 2023’s recruiting disappointments so far, there is plenty of time to rectify it.

One thing about Texas A&M football is that the Aggies are involved with a number of elite prospects and many of those highly-ranked players wait later to make a decision.

Still, Texas A&M needed to start building some momentum and the Aggies did just that on Sunday with the commitment of top-100 offensive tackle Chase Bisontis.

What Bisontis commitment means for Texas A&M

The 6-foot-5, 290-pound tackle out of New Jersey, is ranked 62nd overall according to the 247 sports composite rankings, as well as ninth among offensive tackles.

Offensive lineman pickups aren’t always flashy or sexy but Bisontis is a big-time prospect and Jimbo Fisher has done an excellent job over the years of building up this program through the trenches and the Aggies did well to land Bisontis.

Here’s a look at his scouting report from 247 sports:

"“Has size and body type to be a swing offensive lineman to play right tackle or on interior. Has frame capable of playing at 290 or above. Physical run blocker. Drives back defensive lineman with violent initial punch. Plays physical and goes to whistle. Stays engaged and drives legs to create running lanes. Athleticism shows when pulling and blocking in space. Scrapes and gets to second level well. Has to be more consistent in sinking hips. Hand placement is inconsistent. Has to continue to work on pass pro. Often leans and reaches rather than staying patient and sitting in base. Needs to work on mirroring when defensive player changes direction. Has all-conference ability at Power 5 level. Mid to early-round NFL draft potential.”"

Bisontis is the sixth verbal commitment for the Aggies in the 2023 recruiting class. They signed 30 last year so the number will likely be smaller but five of the six commitments are four-star prospects with three in the top 100 overall.

Texas A&M has work to do, but the addition of Bisontis is a big step in the right direction as the Aggies hope to close this cycle in a strong fashion.
