Texas A&M football a major threat to flip 5-star QB Malachi Nelson from USC
Texas A&M football is hosting a surprise visitor this weekend in the form of five-star quarterback Malachi Nelson, who’s currently committed to USC.
College football recruiting is a different beast right now. One minute, USC feels like it has its quarterback of the future committed in the 2023 class, and the next, Texas A&M swoops in to make a move on that five-star, Malachi Nelson.
Jimbo Fisher isn’t ready to give up on this recruitment despite Nelson being committed to the Trojans since November of 2021.
Plus, he hadn’t taken any official visits other than one to USC this summer, so this is a huge pull by the Aggies to even get him to make the trip to College Station.
Nelson is one of those elite talents in the class who may have committed a little early and now the Trojans will be fighting to keep him aboard.
Lincoln Riley probably didn’t expect this to happen.
The five-star from Los Alamitos, Calif., is the nation’s No. 2 recruit and second-best quarterback behind only Arch Manning and Riley had been recruiting him hard at Oklahoma before he took the head coaching job at USC and two days later, Nelson committed to the Trojans.
He was really connected to Riley and the two seemed to have a great relationship which is why he pretty much committed on the spot when the former Oklahoma coach went to USC.
Now, Jimbo is making some moves and Texas A&M’s recruiting is starting to really pick up again.
Everyone always says: there’s a long way until signing day. This recruitment is proof of that.
I’d be pretty shocked if Texas A&M doesn’t pull out all the stops to get Nelson to flip before signing day and even getting an unofficial visit from him is massive.
