The 2022 season is right around the corner and Nebraska football is kicking it off in Week 0 against Northwestern. Let’s see who could break out.

Scott Frost is facing a ton of pressure heading into the 2022 season after going 3-9 last year with Nebraska football.

The program has given him yet another opportunity to prove himself seeing as eight of nine losses were by one score or less and one was by nine points. The Cornhuskers weren’t beaten by more than 10 points in any game last year and it feels like they may be on the verge of improvement.

If the Cornhuskers want improvement, some under-the-radar guys need to step up.

Who’s going to break out for Nebraska in 2022?

There are a handful of defenders who could have made this spot, but I think the one guy who really caught my eye was four-star cornerback Jaeden Gould.

The freshman cornerback from New Jersey committed to Scott Frost and enrolled early so with an entire spring with the program in the books, he could make the two-deep once the fall approaches. And I think he will.

Nebraska had a decent pass defense a year ago, ranking 53rd nationally but just ninth in the Big Ten, but it will be replacing three starters, including one cornerback. Quinton Newsome is the lone returning starter back there and I wouldn’t be surprised to see Gould back him up and push for some playing time in the fall.

If the Cornhuskers wants to build that defensive backfield for the future, Gould should play plenty this season and I think he’ll be a star.
