Obviously, an argument could be made for Casey Thompson as a breakout candidate for the 2022 season and he would be my favorite, but some could contend that he has already been in the spotlight.

But he hasn’t quite scratched the surface yet. He threw for over 2,000 yards and 24 touchdowns with nine interceptions. He completed 63 percent of his passes in his first season as the Longhorns’ starting quarterback last year but he’s capable of so much more.

Thompson has some big shoes to fill as Adrian Martinez finally moved on, transferring to the Big 12 at Kansas State. So basically, Thompson and Martinez just traded conferences.

The Texas transfer can run with the ball, too, as he had 157 rushing yards and four touchdowns last year. He’s not quite a Martinez-level rusher, but he’s good enough to at least keep defenses honest.

I’m expecting a monster year for Thompson in 2022.
