Strength in Numbers

The Texas Longhorns return eight starters on a defense that had its share of struggles in 2021. In eight of their games, last season the Longhorns allowed 30 or more points and finished with a -4 turnover margin and while that is influenced by the offense as well, only recording seven interceptions does not help either.

But that wasn’t the only flaw of this Longhorn defense as they recorded just 20 sacks and had a hard time putting pressure on the quarterback.

But experience is the best way to get better and improve on poor play from a year ago and the Longhorns have plenty of that. Their secondary which is led by Safety Anthony Cook and Cornerback D’Shawn Jamison will look to lead the way in turning things around in the turnover margin area of things in a conference that is known for its high-scoring offenses.

But the Texas defense’s biggest x-factor is linebacker DeMarvion Overshown, who led the team in tackles (74) in 2021.

The fifth-year senior linebacker has eyes on being an early-round draft pick in next year’s NFL Draft but will use his speed and athleticism to lead the Longhorns in being one of the best defenses in the conference.
