A rude re-introduction for Jim Mora Jr.

Jim Mora Jr. was a really good hire for UConn. The program, which did actually win a conference championship and play in a major bowl game not that long ago, has suffered through 10 straight losing seasons and was just 1-11 last year.

Mora is going to have his work cut out for him and opening the season against a pretty solid Utah State team, on the road, isn’t going to make things easy. Or pretty.

Penn State transfer Ta’Quan Roberson should be the starting quarterback and that’s a positive step in the right direction. The Huskies will be trying to gel a number of other transfer portal additions as Mora tries to rebuild the infrastructure.

Having a former NFL head coach is going to help and Mora should be able to get the program back to its winning ways eventually but in Week 0 against Utah State, a team that won 11 games last season including two wins over Pac-12 opponents, it could get a little ugly.

But the Huskies will still be better right away thanks to Mora. Blake Anderson and the Aggies, who do have a new QB in Levi Williams from Wyoming, have some of their own question marks, but should contend for the Mountain West title all the same.
