There will be one big upset

If I was a gambling man, I’d bet on at least one upset during college football week 0.

Upsets are part of what makes college football great and when it’s the first week of the season, you can expect crazy things to happen. Illinois upset Nebraska last season in the first game under head coach Bret Bielema and the Fighting Illini are back on the schedule for Week 0 in 2022.

Illinois is hosting Wyoming and the Cowboys, despite some heavy losses, including two quarterbacks to the transfer portal, should be able to make this a game. Craig Bohl is a winner and the Cowboys have enjoyed postseason play consistently during his tenure.

Bielema also has a new quarterback in transfer Tommy DeVito but the overall talent is upgraded. Still, the first game is always scary and whether it’s Wyoming, Northwestern over Nebraska, Hawaii over Vanderbilt, or someone like Austin Peay surprising Western Kentucky, someone will get shocked in Week 0.

A double-digit favorite will go down. I can almost guarantee it.
