College Football Rankings 2022: Projected preseason AP Top 25
The phrase “we’re back” still haunts Texas football fans as that Sugar Bowl win was the last taste of glory. That may soon change as I believe Quinn Ewers, Bijan Robinson, and Xavier Worthy will lead the most explosive offense in the Big 12 this year. If there was ever a year that Texas could win the Big 12 again, it’s 2022.
Matt Corral is gone which may put a damper on things, but Jaxson Dart has transferred in from USC to take over. Lane Kiffin also landed Zach Evans at running back and Michael Trigg at tight end from the portal and the Rebels’ offense might just be as good as it was a year ago. If that defense continues to improve, I think people will see why I think they’re a top-20 team.
Am I completely bought into Mario Cristobal? No. Do I think he’s a heck of a recruiter? Yes. He’ll get talent to come to Miami and the Hurricanes will probably approach 10 wins consistently, but I’m not sure Cristobal can win the big games. He has a lot to prove, but he has a roster that could win big in the ACC.
KJ Jefferson returns to lead a dark-horse Heisman campaign and Sam Pittman has reloaded the roster with some solid talent. Despite losing Treylon Burks, this offense will be really, really good and the defense has continued to improve. I would be shocked if Arkansas didn’t improve yet again from last year’s nine-win campaign.
Mike Gundy had a team capable of winning the Big 12 last year, but the Cowboys came a yard short — literally. Spencer Sanders returns at quarterback and the Cowboys will have arguably the best defense in the league in 2022 and if the offense can keep up, the sky is the limit for this team.
