Wisconsin football is a contender in a crowded Big Ten West
By Shane Lunnen
Wisconsin football has not won the Big Ten in a decade. Its first goal is to get back to the Big Ten title game for the first time since the 2019 season
Wisconsin is coming off two straight subpar seasons by Wisconsin standards. While both seasons ended in bowl victories, the Badgers have not earned a trip to Indianapolis and a shot at the Big Ten championship since 2019. This year they look to contend again.
Under Paul Chryst, now entering his eighth season in Madison, the Badgers have been fairly successful. Chryst is 65-23, has won two New Year’s Six bowl games while appearing in three and winning six bowl games overall. Win-wise, the Badgers are the best Power Five team not to have made the College Football Playoff since its inception in 2014.
So what can the Badgers do to get back to winning a Big Ten championship? They have the defense, although this year’s version may not be as good as last season. They will have another solid running attack, playing ball control and controlling the tempo in games.
One of the key things will be getting better play at the quarterback position. There are four new assistants this season on the offensive side of the ball.
Overall Wisconsin has the look of one of the teams in contention in a wide-open Big Ten West. Let’s take a deeper look at both sides of the ball before getting to some season predictions.
